Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines may not be done with reality television after all.
The hosts of the popular HGTV show announced in September they were ending their series in order to spend more time with their children,
But, PageSix.com reported Thursday, citing a Vanity Fair story, it seems the couple are actually in talks with ‘at least one outlet’ for another show.
Not gone for good: Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines may not be done with reality television after all with reports Thursday they’re in talks with ‘at least one outlet’ for new series
It turns out, insiders claim, that the couple wanted to end their home remodeling series because they’re finding their current deal with Scripps, that owns HGTV, ‘too restrictive’.
Vanity Fair reports that Chip, 42, and Joanna, 39, clashed with Scripps over promoting their Magnolia Market business on Fixer Uppers.
Their sideline, which has a decor deal with Target and also has a bakery, is booming but Scripps wanted to approve all of their public appearances and brand promotions, VF. com claimed.
If they do get a new show, it’s likely going to be different from the one that made them famous and sources told Vanity Fair they may be looking to land a deal for a talk show.
Changes: The news comes two months after the couple from Waco, Texas, announced they were pulling the plug on their HGTV home remodeling series after five seasons
This comes just two months after Chip and Joanna revealed that season five of their hit HGTV show Fixer Upper will be their last.
At the time it was claimed they pulled out of the hit series out of security fears as the HGTV show posed a security risk against their children, according to Us Weekly.
The pair were increasingly worried about keeping their four kids — Drake, 12, Ella, 10, Duke, nine, and Emmie, seven — out of the spotlight, it was alleged.
‘People drive by and like to take pictures in front of their house,’ a source told the magazine. ‘I think they just want to take a step back from it.’
Just before that, Joanna said leaving the show would be good for the kids.
‘They’re so young, and we want to give them the chance to have a normal childhood. Family is the most important thing in the world,’ she explained.
Family first: Chip and Joanna claimed they wanted to quit because they were increasingly worried about the welfare of their four kids — Drake, 12, Ella, 10, Duke, nine, and Emmie, seven
Money: It’s claimed the Gaines’s wanted out of ‘restrictive’ contract with HGTV parent Scripps due to clashes about promoting their Magnolia Market line which has a deal with Target
The couple also opened up about their decision in a cover story for People magazine last month.
Joanna told the magazine: ‘We gave everything we had to this show – the beautiful homes and those sweet families – but this just felt like the right time to catch our breath for a bit.’
Chip, 42, said to People: ‘We have the chance to regroup and refresh’, noting that he hopes to look back in two years and say ‘thank God we stopped and gave each other time and energy and loved our family more than we would’ve had the resources to do otherwise.’
Adding that ‘hopefully that will pay dividends down the road.’
