A family in Florida had difficulty going about their every day activities when an alligator was propped outside their door.

The Marek family was trapped inside their Cocoa, Florida, condo on Monday as neighbors instructed them to remain calm.

‘I was standing by my door looking at a man who was waving at me and pointed down, so I saw the alligator and ran back into the house,’ said Liz Marek to WESH-TV.

Police were called to the College Club Condos around 3.30pm as more students got released from school.

Community residents tried to scare the large reptile away, but it wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.

And while the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was able to remove the gator, they did report that the area could expect more alligators.

‘We haven’t had much of a winter, so it’s kind of already happening and they’re already up and moving,’ trapper Frank Robb said.

‘Unless we get another cold snap, it’s going to keep happening.’
