Gang of burglars in Eltham south London caught on video doorbell seen again on CCTV

A gang of burglars caught repeatedly raiding properties on their victims’ doorbell cameras ransacked another family’s home and sprayed bleach on their pet cat.

The four masked men have been seen breaking into several homes around Eltham, south east London in recent weeks.

Homeowners in the leafy suburb have caught them breaking in on video doorbells, which stream live footage of their doorsteps to their phones using Wi-Fi.

But the gang are still at large and have now broken into another home in the area, stealing goods and spraying the furniture – and the family cat – with bleach in a bid to cover their tracks.

The victim’s neighbour posted about the terrifying incident on Facebook: ‘Yesterday around 9pm this guy & 3 of his b***** friends burglarised our next door neighbours home. (around Eltham Park).

‘They ransacked the entire house – sprayed bleach on furniture and even on their cat!

‘Thanks to Ring doorbell, this image was captured along with their ‘getaway’ car which looks like a black vw golf/polo.’

How can you see who is at your door when you are not at home?

Video doorbells give residents the ability to answer the door and see who is outside their property when they are not at home or inside but unable to answer.

The system uses a camera installed by the door to monitor who is there.

There is also a sensor that can detect movement and notify homeowners when someone is outside.

Using Wi-Fi and a smartphone, computer or tablet, the system will flag up when you have visitors – or when there is an intruder.

The device will then show CCTV footage from the door camera so you can decide whether they want to let them in or not.

More advanced video doorbells will have an unlocking device so residents can let people in remotely.

The cat miraculously escaped with no major injuries but was left shaken. The victims of the Eltham Park incident were not at home when it happened.

MailOnline has contacted the Metropolitan Police for further comment.

The gang were caught in separate doorbell cam footage at another home nearby.

In the clip one man is heard saying in a northern accent ‘I changed them’ to another before moving round to the back of the house to ‘wrench the lock of the patio door’ after failing to kick the front door down.

The victim posted the clip online with the comment: ‘They wrenched our lock off of our back patio doors but only after trying to kick in the front door which they couldn’t as we had the deadlock on and it’s a solid wood door, whereas our back is plastic and glass.’

A separate clip then shows all four men run away from the house on the street lined with large semi-detached homes.

Social media users have expressed their fury that the gang are still at large despite several reports to police.

One person wrote: ‘That’s why scum need to be caught, I really feel for these poor people.

‘I know there are people out there who dont like to grass but I try to put myself in this situation…. & think what if what was me or my loved ones…’

Another branded them ‘disgusting dirty scum bags’ and wrote: ‘Bad enough being burgled without having bleach sprayed around.

‘Really hope their caught soon…hopefully someone who will give them what they deserve.’

Others slammed their ‘disgusting behaviour’ and expressed fears about the cat’s welfare.

It comes a month after another family had to watch the same gang break into their south London home live on their smartphones.

The four men were caught on more video doorbell footage shouting ‘It’s Indians mate’ before smashing down the door of the house in Bexley.

The brazen burglars were seen carrying an axe, a knife and what the victims believe was ‘acid to throw on someone’ if they answered the door.

The family was not inside the five-bedroom property at the time and instead out at a restaurant nearby.

But when the two-way security system flashed up on their mobile phones, they were forced to watch the terrifying incident unfold.

Their voices could be heard ‘we’re being burgled, we’re being burgled, call the police’ as they started to panic.

The homeowners’ son-in-law posted the video footage on Facebook branding the men responsible ‘absolute scum’ and appealing for witnesses to help catch them.

The victims are a married Asian couple in their fifties who lost cash and jewellery in the raid.

Their daughter, 31, told MailOnline at the time: ‘We were just walking out of the restaurant when we saw the doorbell flash up on our phones.

‘When we realised what was happening my dad shouted ‘they’re in the house, call the police.’

‘We called some of the neighbours and one stood at the edge of the driveway.

‘They legged it and when they saw him they were throwing things at him from the car, saying they were going to come back and kill him – it must have been terrifying.

‘We feel thankful we weren’t there at the time, because they had other weapons and they obviously would have broken in anyway – even if we were there.

‘They’ve made us feel unsafe in our own homes, we’re on edge every time we see someone at the door.

‘So much goes on outside your home, terror attacks and stuff like that, but you never expect that to come into your home, because that’s where you feel safe. We’re all very uneasy now.’

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said of the incident: ‘Police were called at 21:21hrs on Wednesday, 29 August to reports of a burglary in progress at a residential address in Bexley.

‘The victim called police after he was alerted to the burglary via his home security system.

‘Officers attended within five minutes of the call, but the suspects had left the premises.

‘The suspects, who had their faces covered, gained entry by forcing open the front door.

‘Cash and jewellery were reported stolen. The four suspects made-off in an awaiting car, which was possibly silver in colour.

‘No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.’
