German national team director Rudi Voller has told their stars that they ‘can’t s*** their pants now’ following a humiliating defeat to Japan in a friendly.

The Euro 2024 hosts were hammered 4-1 on Saturday, with manager Hansi Flick since insisting that he is the right man for the job despite taking just four wins in 17 games. 

Germany face a difficult test on Tuesday when they host World Cup finalists France at Borussia Dortmund’ Signal Iduna Park.

Voller, who was part of Germany’s 1990 World Cup winning squad, was far from impressed at the nature of the defeat to Japan and expects to see a much better display against France.

As reported by Sport1, he said: ‘We can’t s*** our pants now. We’re Germany.

The result piles more pressure on Hansi Flick who has had a miserable record as manager

‘Nobody should be afraid on Tuesday. The boys can do it, they all play for top clubs.’

Voller speaking to the press also said that losing 4-1 is a ‘disgrace’ and that he will speak to Flick on Sunday. 

He said: We’re all still in shock. Losing 4-1 is a disgrace.

‘We all should take a good look at ourselves and then see what happens next. We would all do well to sleep on it tonight.

‘I just spoke to Hansi – he’s deeply affected. We’ll talk tomorrow about why that happened. That was an embarrassment.  

The Germans hoped the match against Japan would mark a new beginning for them nine months before hosting the Euro 2024 tournament. Instead it turned into a debacle and their third straight loss amid jeers and whistles from the home fans.

Flick was already in the spotlight before the match with his team having won only four of their last 16 matches before Saturday and having crashed out of the World Cup first round last year.

Flick believes he is still the right man for the job though Voller will speak to him about the loss

 ‘I know in football there is a dynamic and I cannot forecast what will happen but from my side we try everything to prepare the team well,’ Flick told reporters.

‘I think we are doing a good job and I think I am (the right man for the job),’ he said when asked specifically about his future.

He also went on to add: ‘I am very disappointed and we have to admit that Japan have a very good team. We don’t have the means to beat such a compact defence.

‘We started well. But they score with their first chance, we come back and level and we felt the support, but then they score again. The second half there were too many individual mistakes.’
