Gogglebox Australia’s Emmie Silbery is reunited with her co-stars in moving footage following heartbreaking dementia diagnosis

Grandma Emmie Silbery had a heartwarming reunion with her Gogglebox Australia co-stars Keith and Lee Riley on Sunday.

The television star, 94, left the show in 2022 after starring in 14 seasons due to her devastating dementia diagnosis.

In the footage, captioned ‘Our Emmie’, the now retired TV star could be seen beaming as she hugged Keith, 62, and Lee, 61, and her close friends.

As Stevie Wonder’s hit Isn’t She Lovely played over the clip, Keith engulfed Emmie in a sweet hug when the pair reconnected after a year apart.

It comes after Gogglebox Australia paid an emotional tribute to Emmie when she left the show following her diagnosis.

During last year’s season premiere, Emmie’s iconic red chair was empty while her daughter Kerry and granddaughter Isabelle sat on their lounge.

‘We love you Emmie and we hope you continue to enjoy the show,’ said a voiceover, paying respect to the beloved cast member who starred on the show for 14 seasons.

Many viewers flocked to social media to share their tributes to Emmie, with one Tweeting: ‘We’ll miss you Emmie #GoggleboxAU.’

‘Sad that Emmie is no longer on @GoggleboxAU. I hope she is receiving good care in the retirement village. #GoggleboxAU,’ another said.

A third person wrote: ‘Emmie will be dearly missed #GoggleboxAU.’

Emmie’s granddaughter Isabelle and daughter Kerry spoke with The Project host Sarah Harrison just weeks after the TV veteran left the show.

Kerry said the ‘hardest part’ of Emmie’s diagnosis was having to tell her mother, who has been moved to an aged care facility, that she wouldn’t be appearing on the show anymore.

‘She said why not, and we said you’ve got dementia and she said I’m perfectly alright, there’s nothing wrong with me, I’m not ga-ga,’ Kerry explained.

‘This is real life. Emmie is no longer able to do the show, and we wanted to be really transparent about that and not have her disappear off the couch,’ added Isabelle.
