Google searches for astrophysics skyrocket after Matt Agnew is announced as The Bachelor

So she’s not the only one! Google searches for astrophysics skyrocket after Matt Agnew is announced as The Bachelor… after THAT hilarious trailer where contestant Abbie thought he was talking about star signs

A trailer for the upcoming season of The Bachelor Australia went viral in June when contestant Abbie Chatfield had no idea what an astrophysicist was.

And it seems that the bubbly blonde – who thought Bachelor Matt Agnew was talking about star signs – isn’t the only one left scratching their heads at the term.

According to SEMrush, Google searches for astrophysics skyrocketed from June one to July 13.

The research shows that searches for astrophysics more than tripled last month.

It comes after a trailer for the show went viral last month.

Contestant Abbie Chatfield asked what Matt, 31, did for a living when they first met in the garden at the Bachelor mansion.

‘I’m an astrophysicist,’ Matt replies, with Abbie getting confused.

After a brief pause, she replied: ‘OK, I’m a Gemini.’

Matt was momentarily lost for words, but carrying on like a gentleman, he replied: ‘I’m a Leo!’

In other preview clips for Mathew Agnew’s season, ladies struggle to pronounce ‘astrophysicist’ while another claims it’s a ‘fake job’.

Meanwhile, Matt appeared on 10 Daily last week and explained his job, saying it’s crucial for the survival of the human race.

‘My specific research is about planetary science, so the stuff I’m doing is trying to figure out where another planet like Earth could exist, so we could actually look and find it,’ Matt said.

He said that although he discovers planets, it may take lifetimes before people can colonise them since they are ‘really, really far away.’

‘There’s no technological way to actually get there yet. So you know, yeah, we could theoretically but it’s not something that’s within the realm of possibility yet,’ he said.

This season of The Bachelor Australia premieres on Wednesday July 31 on Network 10.
