Gordon Ramsay slammed over the eyewatering price of his Australian pop-up restaurant: ‘You have to take out a home loan for an entree’

  • But the staggering price to visit will set you back a minimum of $495 per person

Despite the cost of living crisis hanging over Australia, top chef Gordon Ramsay is bringing his three Michelin-starred restaurant Down Under for nearly $800 per person.

The ticketed restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, will be taking over Aussie chef Matt Moran’s fine diner Aria in the heart of Sydney from May 8-10 and will showcase the ‘very best of Australian seasonal produce’.

However, tickets to the unique experience will set you back $495 per person, which includes a seven-course menu, with an option of premium wine pairing for $295 – bringing the total to $790 each.

A spokesperson from Aria told Daily Mail Australia the staggering price is set because this is the first time the high-end restaurant has ventured internationally and the menu has been personally curated by Ramsay and Moran.

The menu features signature Restaurant Gordon Ramsay dishes, including shellfish raviolo and a pecan praline dessert.

Word of the event has quickly spread on social media, with guests slamming the outrageous price.

At first many seemed eager to visit and bring a friend along, only to be turned away after seeing the cost.

‘At almost $500 per person, the food would have to be amazing,’ one woman commented on Facebook.

‘$800 each??’ another questioned, a third joked: ‘If you take out a home loan you could buy an entree!’

‘I hope it’s an improvement. Aria is extremely overrated,’ another added.

Others said they would be enticed to pay and go only if Ramsay made a guest appearance for the duration of the three-day event.

‘I’d love to sit at the chefs table at Aria if Gordon Ramsay was on the pass,’ one woman wrote.

Ramsay said: ‘Collaborating with my dear friend Matt Moran, and talented chef patron, Matt Abé at Aria, with its magnificent views across Sydney harbour, and creating a menu that utilises Australia’s incredible local produce whilst delivering the finesse of our 3-star Michelin menu, is a dream come true.’

Moran added: ”What an absolute honour to have Restaurant Gordon Ramsay do their first residency outside London at Aria.

‘Gordon is one of my closest mates, and Abé spent five years cooking with me in the Aria kitchen before moving to London where he has cemented his place as one of the world’s finest chefs.

‘These three nights will be a real highlight in the 23 years of Aria; I can’t wait.’
