This is the horrifying moment a student, 18, breaks ‘legs, hands and spine’ after falling from an amusement park in Peru.

Ariana Pamela Angeles Huertas was allegedly allowed on the ‘Jump into the Void’ ride without an emergency cord attached to her safety equipment to keep her from falling, according to local media reports.

Graphic footage shows the teenage jumping on the ride and falling to the ground at the Mr Joy theme park in Trujillo last Thursday.

Her family said the young woman may never regain feeling in her limbs and have accused the ride operator of negligence.

Miss Huertas underwent emergency surgery but will need at least ten more operations and a year of rehabilitation therapy, according to RPP.

The amusement park will remain closed until the cause of the accident is established.

The video, posted by a relative on social media, shows the student smiling as she prepares to jump off the high platform.

A woman below counts down from three (‘tres, dos, uno’) before she jumps.

She grabs a red moving foam cylinder suspended over the edge, but as she swings in the air she loses her grip and crashes down onto the floor below.

Her cousin, Estefani Perezanelli, told RPP Informando: ‘My cousin is stable but the legs, some bones of the hand and the fifth vertebra of the spine are broken. She will have to go through ten operations. …She cannot move.

‘She got the helmet and that was the last thing before going up.’

In a statement, Mr Joy Peru expressed ‘regret’ for what happened and said it is conducting an investigation, adding they will continue to ‘provide support to the girl and her family’.

Shopping centre Real Plaza, where the amusement park is based, told Peruvian newspaper El Comercio it will provide ‘all the facilities for the authorities to carry out the necessary investigations.’

They said: ‘Our policy is to ensure the welfare and safety of our visitors and this guideline is passed on to all tenants, demanding strict compliance with safety regulations.’
