How I get rid of flies in the Australian summer: This secret and impossibly easy fruit hack works in record time

A nature expert has revealed an easy hack for getting rid of pesky flies in your house this summer.

Australia has been overrun with flies recently because of the approaching warm weather, and millions have been looking for solutions to keep the winged terrors at bay.

One way to ensure the flies steer clear of your home is to set up a fly trap outdoors, attracting the insects away from your kitchen and family.

Tiffany, from Perth, purchased a hanging fly trap net catcher and used rotten fruit as bait.

Flies are drawn to rotten fruit over any other substance due to the high concentration of acetic acid, which is one of the main products generated from fruit fermentation.

Tiffany’s clever hack trapped hundreds of flies and kept them out of her home.

‘Well done! No more flies swarming around my back yard,’ she said. ‘These things are amazing.’

Many were grateful for the woman’s handy tip.

‘Wow, thank you!’ one said. ‘I definitely need to try this, I’m being eaten alive.’

‘I do something similar with a Coca Cola bottle – also works wonders,’ another shared along with a photo.

But some were worried fly catchers would exacerbate the issue.

‘What if I attract flies from 10km around?’ one asked. ‘I want a fly catcher for flies already bugging me, I don’t want their mates from over there and around the bend.’

‘I think I’d really like for winter to last a whole lot longer,’ another lamented.

A few slammed those wanted to hurt the ‘poor, innocent’ creatures.

‘Just a precaution – flies pollinate many plants. European bees are now threatened, we may only have native bees and flies soon,’ one said.

‘Flies serve many important ecosystem functions. I’ve seen many of the traps posted. Humans can be so selfish,’ a man wrote.
