How much is Meghan Markle’s engagement ring?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle offered royal fans an intimate glimpse at their engagement in their new documentary series.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got engaged in November 2017, with Prince designing a £140K gold band with three diamonds, a large square cut jewel in the center set off by two diamonds at the side, to give to his wife.

However in 2019, Meghan appeared to resign the band, adding a collection of smaller diamonds to the piece.

Meghan revealed in the Netflix show yesterday that she clocked on her beau was about to propose and called estranged friend Jessica Mulroney saying ‘it’s happening’ in hushed, excited tones as Harry waited outside with LED candles and a picnic blanket, ready to pop the question.

After the engagement the couple greeted the press at the Sunkern Garden at Kensington Palace, where royal fans got their first glimpse of the engagement ring.

The custom design featured one diamond originally from Botswana and two smaller stones from Princess Diana’s collection.

At the time, he said: ‘The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s [Meghan’s] favorite.

‘The main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.’

Meghan called it ‘incredible’, explaining: ‘Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Princess Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.’

‘It’s incredibly special to be able to have this [ring], which sort of links where you come form and Botswana, which is important to us. It’s perfect.’

The Duchess of Sussex also wears her wedding band, which is in yellow gold to match Prince Harry’s.

Meghan had the ring changed in 2019, to feature a diamond band, which according to expert Arabel Lebrusan who said at the time it had been redesigned to make the main diamond ‘look bigger’.

She also said it was more of an ‘American style’ than the original design.

Arabel, owner of the ethical jewellery brand Arabel Lebrusan, called the thinner band a popular trend, revealing: ‘Many celebrities do this, as the central stone looks bigger in comparison getting the wow factor.’

The jewellery expert pointed out the difference in the band, saying: ‘She now has little diamonds set down the sides of her engagement ring and the band also seems thinner than before.’

She also said that the glittering band only emphasised the Meghan’s diamonds, and added: ‘The diamond setting on the band looks like micro-set, this means there is very little metal in between the stones maximising the sparkle of the tiny diamonds.’

Harry and Meghan shared several very intimate glimpses inside their romance during the Netflix show – among which was a never-before-seen look at the moment that the Duke popped the question… and the call his soon-to-be-fiancee made to her then-closest confidante Jess revealing what he was preparing to do.

After recounting the moments leading up to the proposal, which took place at the couple’s home in Kensington Palace after they had ‘roasted a chicken together’, Harry and Meghan then shared footage taken by the latter as her partner prepared for the special moment.

The clip featured Meghan’s voice on the phone to her friend ‘Jess’ – believed to be Jessica Mulroney, 42 – telling her: ‘It’s happening!’

In never-before-seen footage of the romantic proposal, Prince Harry can be seen getting down on one knee in the grounds of Kensington Palace, while ’15 electric candles’ surround him as he holds a ring.
