Hundreds of staff and customers have been evacuated from a furniture and homewares store after an apparent gas leak.

Emergency services were called to the IKEA store in Marsden Park, in western Sydney, after reports of a gas leak caused chaos in the store shortly after noon on Monday.

Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Superintendent Rob Jansen told Daily Mail Australia the evacuation was sparked by exhaust fumes from a truck in the loading dock.

Eight people were affected by the fumes

Eight people from inside the store were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance for exposure to the gas while one person was taken to hospital.

It was reported up to 300 people, both customers and staff, were in store at the time of the evacuation, Nine News reported.

More to come.
