I posted a selfie on Twitter asking if anyone wanted to date me – and now I’ve tied the knot

A nurse who posted a selfie on Twitter asking for a ‘celebrity boyfriend’ because she was ‘bored, tipsy, and frustrated’ has now tied the knot with a stranger who replied.

Jill Sennett, originally from Buffalo, New York, shared the lighthearted social media post during the pandemic asking if anyone wanted to date her.

The 34-year-old was quickly met with a response from Casey Serrano who was eager to strike up a conversation.

And now, the couple have tied the knot on the ‘third anniversary’ of their fateful meeting so it can be their ‘forever anniversary.’

Jill took to Twitter in May 2020 to upload the selfie before tagging her idol, singer Hozier.

Casey, 36, was quick to reply to the tweet stating that although he was not Hozier his bass playing had featured in the Alvin and The Chipmunk movie sequel.

And from there the pair quickly hit it off.

They continued to exchange messages and two days after meeting online they had their first ‘virtual’ Skype date.

Casey, who is from Denver, Colorado, eventually flew out to see Jill – nearly 2,000 miles away – and within a month of first messaging the pair became boyfriend and girlfriend.

The couple both said there was instant chemistry between them and when Casey popped the question in March 2022 under the Eternal Flame Falls waterfall in her hometown Jill immediately said yes.

They tied the knot in Southern Spain surrounded by close family and friends last month – three years to the day after their first Twitter conversation.

Oncology nurse Jill, who has now changed her surname to Serrano, said they chose to get married on their Twitter anniversary to make it their ‘forever anniversary.’

She said: ‘The wedding was really a full circle moment and we decided this date as it was the day our lives collided and changed forever.

‘Our relationship is better than what you see on TV. I am astounded by how well he completes me.

‘I think it shows that true love is real and we are so in love.

‘Our honeymoon stage started on May 20 2020 and it has never stopped.’

Jill continued: ‘When I Tweeted the selfie, I was never actually looking for a celebrity to date, I was just feeling isolated and bored in lockdown and wanted my Tweet to seem light hearted and funny.

‘Casey’s reply to my Tweet was genuinely one of the funniest things I had ever seen and he was kind of cute too.

‘I instantly felt chemistry from his first reply and when we first video called, I felt like I had known him for over a decade.

‘After exchanging on Twitter for a while I slid into his DMs first. I sent him a message along the lines of “If Twitter was real life, I would totally date you.”‘

When the couple first met in Philadelphia, Jill said she was nervous which was unusual for her.

She explained: ‘I met him for the first time on my front porch.

‘I felt really nervous and awkward and this isn’t normally what I’m like.

‘I didn’t run into his arms and kiss him when I met as he was still a stranger but we gave each other a big hug and then I showed him my dogs and the apartment.

‘There seemed like a lot of pressure on the meeting because we both really liked each other and wanted it to go well.

‘Before we met, I was already a little in love with him and I wanted it to go well.

‘I think that’s why I was a bit nervous, but once we met it felt really natural and fun.’

Three months after their first meeting, Jill quit her job and moved 2,000 miles to her own apartment in Denver to be closer to Casey.

By December 2020, the pair had moved in together and spent their free time traveling the world visiting Hawaii and road tripping around Spain.

And, after their wedding, the couple jetted off on a romantic holiday to Morocco.

Copywriter Casey said the honeymoon was the ‘epitome of romance,’ adding: ‘We went to the Atlas mountains and went to see where Game of Thrones was filmed. It’s a national heritage site and it was incredible.

‘We also did a sunset camel tour into the desert and it was just the two of us.

‘They brought us back to a tent and in the middle of the desert we had the best tagine ever and there were candles everywhere.’

Casey added: ‘I think the reason me and Jill work so well is that whilst we do have similar core values and our speeds and energy are the same, both of our histories are similar.

‘I have been divorced twice and it made me feel very unlovable.

‘Jill kind of had an opposite background where she had only had one serious relationship but she has been told that she is too much or too loud in the past which has made her feel unlovable.

‘Both of our broken parts matched up and we have this unnatural compatibility with each other.’
