I want to give my unborn daughter this boy’s name inspired by Derry Girls

I want to give my unborn daughter this boy’s name inspired by Derry Girls – but people say my hormones have sent me mad

An expectant mother has revealed the name she wants to give her baby but people disagree and say she’s ‘mental’.

The pregnant woman sought urgent advice on UK parenting website Mumsnet as her due date was closing in.

She added that her and her partner had conceived only girls up until this point and so she rather fancied a boy’s name for their unborn daughter.

Perhaps even more odd, is that the name is inspired by famous nun and headmistress Sister Michael from teen sitcom Derry Girls.

The woman admitted that her choice was unusual and questioned if her hormones were making her ‘mental’.

Taking to the British parenting site Mumsnet, a pregnant woman revealed she’s been inspired by the TV show Derry Girls for her baby name

She said: ‘My partner has been set on Michael for a boy for this and our last pregnancy, however each time the baby has been a girl.

‘I’m due shortly and we still don’t have a name’ she added.

‘I was watching Derry Girls which has Sister Michael in it and I’ve actually started thinking I really like it for a girl.

‘Is this just my hormones making me go mental?

One person replied: ‘Yes it is just your hormones and you would be mental to name your daughter Michael. Glad you’ve come to your senses!’

‘Don’t do it’ said another person before asking: ‘Would you want to be a woman called Michael?’

Another agreed: ‘Don’t do it! While it is a lovely name, it’s a nightmare being a girl with a boys name growing up’.

Someone else said: ‘Only if you’re prepared to call your son Emily’.

Sharing a similar experience, another person said: ‘I really wouldn’t. My nickname growing up was Michael (long story) and it was so embarrassing when my dad called me that in front of my friends.

‘I can’t imagine how it would feel as your actual name’.

‘Don’t set your kid up to be a weirdo’ said another.

One person suggested alternative names for the woman’s unborn, writing: ‘What’s wrong with Michaela? Or Michelle or Misha?’

The news comes as a baby expert warned expectant parents to think carefully before naming their children.

Jessica Paquette, 22, urged parents to avoid shortened ‘nicknames’ for their children.

She shared a TikTok explaining why popular names like Jake – instead of Jacob – Jessie – over Jessica – and Millie – instead of Amelia – are a terrible move by new parents.

‘This is a little stranger that you don’t know yet and you’re making decisions about how society perceives them,’ Paquette, from Nashville, Tennessee, said in the clip.

‘First impressions are very real, whether we like it or not, and giving them the option to sound as formal as they like, is desirable in my opinion.’

She offered the example of choosing the nickname Millie over Amelia.

Noting that Amelia sounds more formal when being said during wedding vows and is more pleasing to look at on a job resume than compared to Millie.
