As one of Australia’s most recognizable Olympians, Ian Thorpe sparked plastic surgery rumours last year for his changing appearance.

And on Friday at the Australian Open in Melbourne, Thorpe displayed what appeared to be a new nose while watching a match between Roger Federer and Taylor Fritz.

The 36-year-old looked noticeably different with his former ‘aquiline nose’ seemingly replaced with a more prominent bridge.

The sporting legend showed off his smooth visage as he watched the tennis match from a private seating area.

Clad in a form-fitting navy shirt, he showed off his bulging biceps, and wore a straw hat to shield his face from the sun.

It’s not the first time there has been speculation surrounding Thorpe undergoing plastic surgery on his nose.

In October last year, the swimming champion turned heads during television coverage of the Invictus Games on ABC.

The Daily Telegraph speculated that his ‘new’ appearance could be down to ‘cosmetic surgery’.

This type of rhinoplasty reportedly involves ‘the sculpting of cartilage in the centre of his appendage’ and a tip that curves upwards.

It is believed the sporting legend, who has won five Olympic and 10 Commonwealth Games medals, may have undergone the rumoured surgery in 2017.

While Thorpe is yet to comment on his ‘new’ appearance, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr Randal Haworth believes it’s clear that the star has gone under the knife.

‘It is clear as day that Mr. Thorpe had a rhinoplasty,’ Dr Haworth exclusively to Daily Mail Australia last year.

Dr Haworth went on to describe what he believes are tell-tale signs Ian has had a rhinoplasty.

‘The dorsal hump of his bridge has been significantly lowered so that his tip now overprojects from his face,’ he claimed.
