Jared Leto feels the rush of his daredevil ways and scales rock formations in South Of France

Jared Leto has never been one to shy away from what some would call risky behavior, even in the wake of his brush with death while rock climbing a couple of years ago.

While this go-around wasn’t nearly as high and dangerous, the actor and musician was spotted scaling an impressive rock formation with the gorgeous blue waters in the South Of France below.

His stuntman-like antics began with him taking a swim, but once he got an up-close look at those rocks, he wasted little time in put his rock climbing skills to use, and proceeded to make his way up one particular formation.

Leto, 50, could be seen wearing blue shorts and a black shirt as he surveyed the situation from just over 10 feet above the water.

Having caught the rock climbing bug years ago, the actor and musician proceeded to climb higher, while contemplating whether to jump off into the water at some point.

He proceeded upwards, using the skills he has accumulated since taking up the dangerous sport after he made a five-part climbing docuseries, Great Wide Open, in 2016.

The Oscar-winning actor claims to have had a near-death experience while climbing at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Las Vegas in March 2020.

While out with a professional climber, the rope supporting Leto began to come apart against a rock some 600 feet above he ground below.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Leto recalled that his reaction was ‘was like an acceptance, and a little bit of sadness,’ adding, ‘It wasn’t even fear. It was like, ah, not now.’

When initially sharing the news of his harrowing experience on Instagram at the time, he wrote how he ‘nearly died’ while rock climbing.

He posted video footage from the climb to his account, captioning the clip, ‘#FBF Not to sound dramatic, but this is the day I nearly died. Took a pretty good fall climbing with @alexhonnold at Red Rock.’

Leto continued, “Looked up and within seconds the rope was being cut by the rock while I dangled some 600 ft in the air. I remember looking down at the ground below. It was a strange moment – less fear, more matter of fact, and slightly melancholy.

‘The adrenaline came after, when I got back on the wall. But we made it through and lived to see another day,’ he wrote. ‘Overall it was actually quite fun. we continued climbing into the night.’

Since first taking up the sport, Leto has climbed Joshua Tree and Yosemite, among others, often posting images from his adventures on his Instagram page.

Most recently Leto has been out promoting his superhero film Morbius which premiered in the U.S. on April 1, and has since gone on grossed over $163 million at the worldwide box office.
