Jimmy Barnes gets into the festive spirit as he celebrates Christmas with his family following open heart surgery

Jimmy Barnes has plenty to celebrate this Christmas.

The legendary Australian rockstar, 67, recently underwent open heart surgery but doctors found he was healthy enough to make it home before December 25.

Posting to Instagram on Christmas Eve, an elated Jimmy shared photos of himself enjoying the festivities at home with his wife Jane and grandchildren.

‘I’m so happy to be home for Christmas with my loved ones,’ he began his caption.

‘The littlest ones are so excited. They’re putting out cookies and carrots. I can smell the ham and stuffing and can’t wait for tomorrow. Happy Christmas,’ he continued.

Jimmy concluded by quoting a song by Eddi Reader: ‘My love is like a red red rose.’

The Cold Chisel frontman’s fans were thrilled with the good news, with one commenting: ‘Absolutely amazing to see the big smiles!’

‘Merry Christmas to Mr Jimmy and Jane Barnes and your lovely big family. Looking very healthy and happy,’ another wrote.

Jimmy informed his followers earlier this month he was undergoing open heart surgery after a bacterial infection spread to his heart.

Following the procedure, the Scottish-born Aussie took to Instagram to let his followers know he is healthy, happy and likely to make a full recovery.

Late last month, Jimmy was forced to cancel his headlining appearance at Rock the Boat cruise festival in Noumea, New Caledonia, after being hospitalised with bacterial pneumonia.

He then had to pull out of his scheduled performance at By The C in Torquay on December 2 after his condition failed to improve.

Jimmy has a string of sold-out headlining gigs booked for January and February, including multiple shows at the Red Hot Summer Tour festival.

However, Jimmy later confirmed his upcoming shows will likely be axed after doctors found his infection had spread.
