Jonnie Irwin takes wife Jess out to lunch to celebrate her birthday after announcing his TV return amid terminal cancer battle

Jonnie Irwin shared a sweet snap with his wife Jess as the two enjoyed lunch on Friday. 

Heading out to mark his wife’s birthday the star shared a lovely selfie of the pair on Instagram as they wrapped up warm in the autumn sun. 

The TV presenter, who is battling terminal cancer, looked to be in good spirits as he donned a thick khaki scarf and grey flat cap. 

Meanwhile Jess, 40, added a pop of colour as she wrapped up in a pink scarf and white turtleneck jumper. 

Jonnie, 49, revealed in November that his cancer had spread from his lung to his brain after initially being diagnosed in 2020.

The TV presenter captioned the post: ‘Birthday lunch with my Favourite. #love #birthday #belter #lobsterravioli’. 

Jonnie was flooded with support as fans took to the comments to send their love to the couple. 

One wrote: ‘You’re looking Swell Jonny we can tell Jonny .Happy birthday to Jess she’s a belter and gorgeous have lovely meal lots love both xxx’.

Another added: ‘You are looking so well just now….keep the pressure on that effing disease’. 

Other rushed to wish Jess a happy birthday as they commented: ‘Happy Birthday  enjoy both of you’, while another added ‘Have great birthday celebrations!’

The couple are parents to four-year-old son Rex and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac. 

The birthday celebrations come after Jonnie confirmed earlier this month that he will return to TV screens. 

He revealed he is returning to British TV to film a home renovation programme for BBC Morning Live in Newcastle.

Taking to Instagram to announce the news, he wrote: ‘So good to be back filming for @bbcmorninglive.

‘We’ve just shot to short films about renovating your home and what to look out for. 

‘I think my smug smile betrays the lack of a massive commute for once and the extra couple of hours I got in my scratcher as we filmed in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

‘I’ll let you know when they are due to go out, when I know myself.’
