An Australian travel enthusiast has shared a clever hack to hide extra luggage on a plane and avoid excess baggage charges.

In a video to popular Instagram account, Kooshy Kids founder Louisa demonstrated the handy trick for taking clothes that won’t fit into your suitcase by packing them into a pillowcase.

Kooshy Kids specialises in kids travel good and entertainment and offers useful tips and tricks to make family holidays stress-free.

In the now-viral clip, Louisa disguises excess clothing as a carry-on pillow and said you will need two pillowcase and a small blanket.

She starts by folding the extra clothing into three neat, compact piles and wrapping them tightly in the blanket so she has a package about the size of her pillowcase.

Louisa then slips the pillowcase over the blanket-wrapped clothes and, for added security, slides the second pillowcase over the top in the opposite direction.

In the short clip, Marie can be seen filling the empty pillowcase with clothes, then walks through the airport and onto the plane.

Although the pillowcase was filled with clothes, it looked comfortable enough for Marie to rest her head on during the flight.

The clever hack can be used to save luggage space and would help avoid filling your suitcase over the maximum carrying limit.

Jake and Marie’s top travel tips

Just do it – Its one thing to think it, and another to do it. Its so easy to over complicate things and worry so much about the finer details that you lose the emotion you had when you first thought of travelling. The fear or the hesitation we all have is a natural response to exposing ourselves to something uncomfortable. It would be easier to stay home, but it wouldn’t be as fulfilling and you wouldn’t experience so much personal growth. So when you feel that hesitation, realise it’s a good thing, and then make your move.

Travel Lite – No matter how hard we try to remember to look after our gear, on every trip we lose or break something of value. When you are constantly on the move its so easy to forget things. We have realised that having less is so much better. We don’t stress as much and our minds are more at ease.

Plan ahead but don’t expect everything to work out – Travel is a beautiful thing, but not the most reliable in terms of expectations. Wherever you go, travel with an open mind and be ready to jump at opportunities.
