BREAKING NEWS: Huge 250kg stash of ‘explosive material’ and 40 GUNS seized as man, 42, is arrested at remote bush property

A man has been charged after police allegedly seized 250kg of explosive material and 40 firearms from a rural bush property.

Police allege they found the haul – which included seven pipe bombs, seven improvised explosive devices and a ballistic vest – after raiding a property in Kurrajong, 75km north-west of Sydney, on Wednesday.

NSW Police said they also seized 77 knives, five electronic stun devices and six firearm silencers.

A 42-year-old man was arrested and taken to Windsor Police Station.

He was charged with six offences including manufacturing firearms without a permit and three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.

The other charges were possessing more than three unregistered firearms and having custody of a knife in a public place.

The man was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court on Thursday.

Police allege the property was being used to store ‘significant amounts of illicit explosive material and numerous prohibited weapons’.

Specialist officers allegedly found 250kg of ammonium nitrate and ‘various other chemicals’ during the morning raid.

The address was raided after the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad received a tip-off about the manufacture and importation of prohibited firearms, a NSW Police spokesman said.

All items seized during the operation will undergo forensic examination.

A crime scene is still in place at the rural property as drug and firearms detectives comb through the site.
