Labour failed to take action over sex assault allegations against party officials, former MP John Mann alleges

Labour has failed to act over sexual assault allegations against officials, one of its former MPs has claimed.

In a bombshell development, John Mann, who is now a peer, said allegations had been ‘deliberately sat on’ by those at the top of the party.

He said he raised the cases of three complainants in a letter to the Labour Party a year ago – but senior officials had taken no action at all.

Last night Labour dismissed his claims, saying it had no record of receiving a letter from him.

Lord Mann stepped down as Labour MP for Bassetlaw on Monday to take up his seat in the House of Lords after being appointed the Government’s anti-Semitism tsar.

Before leaving the Commons last week, he tweeted: ‘Before I quit as an MP I will be sending letters about sexual harassment and assault that have been deliberately sat upon by people in power.’

Lord Mann declined to identify any of those who had been accused.

He told the Lincolnshire Echo: ‘This is not a parting shot; I will continue to raise the issue. I want the Labour Party to take action because absolutely nothing has happened.

‘These are very serious and I’ve itemised three examples of this where absolutely nothing was done about it.’

Lord Mann then told the Mail: ‘I have sent a letter with copies of what was previously sent by me, asking why no action had been taken.’

A Labour spokesman said: ‘We take all complaints of sexual harassment extremely seriously and fully investigate and take any appropriate disciplinary action.’
