Macron’s dog wees against a fireplace in the Elysée Palace

An otherwise serious political meeting erupted into giggles on Sunday when the French President’s dog was caught relieving himself at the Elysée Palace.

Emmanuel Macron was speaking about inner-city investment with three junior ministers at his official residence when they were interrupted by the sound of his dog Nemo peeing.

And it wasn’t just anywhere. The black Labrador-Griffon cross, who the Macrons adopted from an animal rescue centre in August, had chosen to relieve himself on the ornate fireplace in the gilded office.

‘The dog is in the middle of doing something quite exceptional,’ comments an amused Macron.

Luckily, Brune Poirson, 35, Benjamin Griveaux, 39, and Julien Denormandie, 37, the junior ministers for ecology, the economy and local government, also see the funny side.

‘What’s that noise?’ asked a bemused Ms Poirson, as the meeting descends into laughter.

‘Does that happen often?’ asks Mr Denormandie.

The president then resumes the meeting, which was broadcast by channel TF1, as if nothing had happened.

It is not known if Macron himself cleaned up the mess.

It’s not the first time a dog has caused trouble at the palace.

Nicholas Sarkozy’s dogs reportedly caused thousands of euros of damage to the palace furniture.
