Malia Obama’s British boyfriend is related to Queen’s aide

The British public schoolboy pictured passionately kissing Malia Obama is related to a former senior aide to the Queen, MailOnline can reveal.

Rory Farquharson, former head boy at one of the UK’s most prestigious schools, is reportedly dating the former First Daughter after their smooch at an American football match.

But his Royal links can be revealed for the first time as his second cousin Andrew Farquharson was a career courtier who was the Queen’s Assistant Master of the Household at Buckingham Palace.

Mr Farquharson, was one of Her Majesty’s most trusted aides responsible for a budget of thousands of pounds to pay for and coordinate the food and drink at events from state budgets to summer picnics in Balmoral.

So respected was he by the Queen, that he even managed to persuade her to shun the usual bulk purchase of Christmas puddings from Harrods or the Fortnum & Mason and instead opt for a Tesco range.

It was on his advice that she decided to break with tradition and buy her annual 1,411 Christmas puddings, given as gifts to staff, from Tesco.

During his ten years at the Queen’s head of entertainment, she made no secret of her dependence on his logistic, diplomatic and financial skills.

But, in 2006, he was poached by Prince Charles to be his Deputy Master of the Household at Clarence House.

During his three years’ of service he had also to negotiate the delicate Anglo-French matter of the Prince’s decision not to serve foie gras on royal menus.

However, in 2009, Mr Farquharson was axed from his six-figure salary job, a move said to have angered the courtier so much that he refused the prince’s offer to work out his six months’ notice.

At the time, Clarence House insisted his departure was down to a ‘review of costs’. He is now the head of household at Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland.

Meanwhile, Rory’s great uncle was Sir Donald Farquharson who, during an illustrious legal career, was the presiding judge who jailed Lester Piggott for three years after the champion jockey admitted a £3 million tax fraud.

As a barrister, he prosecuted the Streatham madam, Cynthia Payne, whose south London brothel he described as ‘well run’ and popular with vicars, MPs and aristocrats alike.

His second cousin Rory began his studies at the university last year after completing his A-Levels, posting a picture of himself at the campus with the caption: ‘So it begins’.

The 19-year-old, who who was head boy at the £11,584-a-term Rugby School, was also a member of its chemistry club the Blue Bunsen Society.

Rugby is one of the top ‘public’ schools in the United Kingdom, just a rung below the more famous Eton and Harrow.

It charges more than $42,500 (£32,000) a year for tuition and board and is, perhaps, is most famous for giving the world the game of rugby.

Farquharson played the sport and was an extra in a rugby video that played in the Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony in 2015, with Prince Harry also making an appearance in the clip. The young man also represented the school at golf.

The elite school was also the setting for the 19th Century novel Tom Brown’s School Days which graphically detailed the bullying that went on in public schools at the time.

His father Charles, 57, who has a degree in law from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, is the chief executive of Insight Investment Management Limited based in London.

His mother Catherine, 58, is a qualified accountant who sits as a lay person on financial and legal tribunals in London’s Upper Tribunal.

Farquharson spent the summer as an intern with the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building in Northern Ireland.

With the school year in full swing, Malia appeared to be settling in just fine at Harvard with Farquharson by her side.

She was caught making out with the handsome fellow Crimson fan at the annual Harvard-Yale game.

The 19-year-old former first daughter, who took a gap year before starting at Harvard this fall, looked pleased with herself as she paused to appear what seemed to be a smoke break.

She has previously been seen smoking what appeared to be a joint at Lollapalooza in 2016.

Farquharson wore a black jacket, a red long-sleeved Harvard t-shirt, black jeans and black sneakers for the chilly weather.

A year ago, her father said that Malia and his younger daughter Sasha had already started dating and that he was ‘pretty relaxed’ about it since they have Secret Service protection.

‘They’ve had Secret Service. There’s only so much these guys can do,’ Barack joked.
