A man attempting to scare drivers in a Halloween costume was nearly run over when he stumbled over his shackles and fell in front of the rear wheel of a car.

Footage of the bizarre incident, filmed in the US, shows the prankster, dressed as a zombie prisoner, growling at motorists at a crossroads.

He is seen wearing a thin frame around his head while his arms and legs are tied together by ligatures, restricting his movement.

The man, dressed as a ghoulish psychiatric patient, tries to scare drivers as they pass

A woman dressed as an undead nurse, believed to be his wife, holds him by a long strap as he charges at a red car.

She can be seen really straining as the man puts all his effort into his ghoulish character.

But his enthusiasm soon gets the better of him.

As a second car approaches, the man charges towards the rope again with a bit too much strength causing the strap held by the woman to snap.

The zombie nurse falls backwards while the prankster goes stumbling towards the road with no limbs available to aid his balance.

He hits the asphalt just as the car drives past, forcing the quick-thinking driver to swerve to avoid running over the man with his rear wheels.
