Man United midfielder Casemiro swaps shirts with Brazilian compatriot Rodrigo Muniz at half-time in defeat against Fulham… minutes before being substituted after he was left bloodied following a clash of heads

Casemiro swapped shirts with Rodrigo Muniz at half-time of Manchester United’s defeat against Fulham on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side were unable to break the deadlock at Old Trafford throughout the first 45 minutes, with both sides unable to capitalise on opportunities to take the lead.

As the players walked off at the break, Casemiro shared words and exchanged shirts with fellow Brazilian Muniz in a move always bound to prove divisive among fans on social media.

One supporter clearly did not approve of the gesture: ‘Two opponents swapping jerseys at halftime. Yep. The world has gone soft.’

A further fan harked back to Robin van Persie and Andre Santos doing the same in a game where the Dutchman netted against his former side in 2012.

Casemiro previously swapped shirts with former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric at half-time of a World Cup quarter-final clash in 2022, with Croatia going on to dump the Selecao out of the tournament on penalties.

After returning to the pitch following the interval at Old Trafford, Casemiro’s afternoon would soon be cut short following a collision with Harrison Reed.

Both players received treatment following the incident.

However, while Reed was able to continue, the bloodied Brazilian was forced off and replaced by Scott McTominay on 53 minutes.

With another knock to add to the club’s growing injury list, United’s afternoon would go from bad to worse shortly after as Calvin Bassey gave the visitors the lead.

Harry Maguire looked to have kept United’s undefeated start to 2024 in the Premier League alive when he equalised on 89 minutes, but Alex Iwobi would score late in stoppage time to secure all three points for Marco Silva’s side.
