Manchester City have launched their new home kit for the 2021-22 season in homage to the strip they wore ten years ago.

The Premier League champions’ new home jersey has been designed to enhance breathability during intense performance as well helping to keep Pep Guardiola’s squad dry and comfortable.

But its most notable feature is its similarity to the kit worn in 2011-12, when City created history by winning the first of their five Premier League titles to date.

It was sealed in simply dramatic fashion, with the club’s all-time record goalscorer Sergio Aguero netting in the fourth minute of added time to seal a a 3-2 win against QPR on the final day, which guaranteed them their first title in 44 years. 

Roberto Mancini’s side went into the final game of the season ahead of Manchester United on goal difference, and needed Aguero’s drilled effort at 93:20 – which sparked wild celebrations at the Etihad Stadium – to confirm their status as England’s best club that season. 

City have since gone on to repeat the feat in 2013-14, 2017-18, 2018-19 as well as last season, when they finished 12 points above their city rivals.

‘Witnessing that moment is something I will never forget. When the goal went in, we knew we had just seen greatness, something special,’ Sportsmail‘s Micah Richards told the club’s official website.

‘The league was hanging in the balance and then to secure it in the final minute, in that fashion, I don’t think will ever be replicated.

‘The new kit is a perfect tribute to one of the greatest moments in City’s history.’

First-team midfield stars Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne, goalkeeper Ederson and women’s star Caroline Weir were all seen modelling the new kit.

But City fans will be hoping to see some fresh faces don their latest home strip come the start of the new Premier League season when they travel to Tottenham on the opening weekend.

City are still on the lookout for a striker having been linked with mega-money moves for Spurs striker Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

But boss Guardiola admitted they cannot afford to buy those two to replace Aguero due to the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic. 

Sportsmail however understands that City are nevertheless confident of securing a £100m move for Jack Grealish, though Aston Villa are planning to offer him fresh terms.
