Manchester United ‘to offer five-star meals on wheels to their stars at home to stop them gaining weight’, after personal chefs were banned under new rules imposed by Erik ten Hag’s strict new regime

  • Manchester United will deliver five-star food to their players under a health kick
  • Erik ten Hag has introduced strict new rules since becoming the club’s manager
  • Players used to have their own personal chefs, but now follow a unique diet plan

Manchester United are reported to be offering their players five-star ‘meals on wheels’ to stop them gaining weight during the season.

Many players, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Luke Shaw, used to use their own personal cooks, but these have been banned by Erik ten Hag’s strict new rules imposed at Carrington.

Instead, club chefs can be booked to cook their food, before having them delivered to their homes, despite many of their major stars owning expensive designer kitchens.

A source told The Sun: ‘Some are young, live alone and are much more confident on the pitch than in the kitchen.’

Last month, the club advertised for a first team head chef, as part of sweeping changes across operations at the Red Devils.

‘The facilities at Carrington are now more like a Michelin-starred restaurant as opposed to an old-fashioned canteen,’ the source revealed.

‘There is even a steak room. The players need to stick to their diets so the chefs are happy to make meals and get them delivered to any player that wants them.’

MailOnline previously reported on ten Hag’s ‘five strict new rules’ for his United stars, which included banning personal chefs, and a strict overhaul on the food that his players eat.

Alcohol consumption will also be outlawed during game weeks – which will come thick and fast during the upcoming season with United also in the Europa League.

The 52-year-old Dutchman has passed down a line of strict values in line with his approach, which is centred around discipline and health checks.

Other rules included demanding that the players eat together at training, and weekly BMI checks.

Players who are late to training or team meetings will also be told to go home, and dropped without exception.

Healthy food on the menu at Carrington includes more prominent placement of fish and vegetables, with players expected to use the training centre canteen as their main source for meals.

When at home, those players will still be expected to stick to their personal food plans, hence the club’s delivery service.
