Manhunt launched after robber jailed for 15 years goes on the run – as police warn public not to approach him

  • Gerry Sergeant was due back in Hollesley Bay Prison at 8pm on Friday 
  • The armed robber had been on a work placement in Bury St Edmunds 
  • Sergeant was serving a 15-year jail term for robbery in the Category D prison

A prisoner serving 15 years for robbery and theft has absconded from a Suffolk prison, police said.

Gerry Sergeant, 61, was due back at Hollesley Bay prison at 8pm on Friday after attending a work placement but failed to return, Suffolk Constabulary said.

He had been due to come back from the work placement in Bury St Edmunds by motorbike.

The force has urged members of the public not to approach Sergeant.

He is described as five foot 11 inches, thin, with brown eyes, white hair and tattoos on both forearms.

He was riding a red Honda 125 cc motorbike, with the registration AO11 VMZ.

Anyone with information should contact Suffolk Constabulary on 101.
