Marcia Hines reveals what was really behind her Australian Idol health emergency – and the promise she made to her doctor before returning to the stage

Marcia Hines has revealed what was really behind her collapse in her dressing room ahead of part one of the Australian Idol finale last month.

The judge, 70, was rushed to hospital after she collapsed on the set of the reality series and injured her head in the fall.

She told The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday she had a Urinary Tract Infection which caused her to faint.

‘I was in my dressing room with my god children and some good friends, and I had my makeup done. I was sitting down, stood up and fell over,’ she explained.

An ambulance then took Marcia to Mount Druitt hospital where doctors confirmed she had a UTI.

Urinary Tract Infections can result in low blood pressure which can cause dizziness, fainting, or weakness.

Marcia told Daily Mail Australia she promised the doctor she would return to hospital if he let her leave to attend the second finale night.

‘He said he didn’t feel comfortable with it,’ she explained.

‘I said “please, I really need to go back to work and I’ll come back to hospital after filming”.’

After the finale, Marcia was then transferred to Blacktown hospital where she stayed for a few more days.

Hines has been a Type-1 diabetic for almost 40 years.

She is a judge on Australian Idol alongside Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands.
