Meghan had her clothes put into storage in Toronto before moving to Kensington Palace

Meghan Markle put clothes into storage in Canada before she moved into Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace with Prince Harry, it has been claimed.

The former actress, who lived in Toronto while filming Suits, has been spotted recycling pieces from her Canadian wardrobe during her current stay on Vancouver Island, where she is residing with baby Archie.

It was initially believed that Meghan only put her furniture into storage when she made the move to live with Prince Harry at Kensington Palace in November 2017, with all personal possessions following her to her new home of London.

However, it seems beloved clothes that she wore on the set of Suits were put aside, suggesting a life in Canada again at some point was always on the cards.

Items believed to have been left behind include a black cashmere beanie, a parka by Soia & Kyo, a Barbour Eplercoat and a Bea cable knit sweater from The Row.

A source told Canada’s Entertainment Tonight, that the Duchess of Sussex has since had the clothes shipped from Toronto to the $14million mansion where the couple stayed over the Christmas break in Vancouver.

Meghan is currently there with baby Archie while Harry has stayed in London for crisis talks with the Queen and Prince Charles following the couple’s decision to step back as the senior royals and lose their HRH titles.

Jamie Samhan, ET Canada’s online editor, said: ‘While it was known the Duchess put her furniture into storage, it was said at the time that she took all her personal items with her.

‘It also begs the question, did Meghan always plan on returning to North America in some capacity? Many have raised doubts around the step down of being senior royals and that both Prince Harry and Meghan had been planning this for some time.

‘The two did give the full royal life a go, but perhaps they always considered having a Canadian abode.’

Earlier this week, Meghan, 38, donned a $695 (£530) down coat from Canadian label Soia & Kyo to pick up Pilates instructor pal Heather Dorak from Victoria International Airport.

The army green coat was bought by the Duchess a number of years ago and became a go-to when she lived in Toronto while filming US legal drama Suits.

Meghan was seen wearing the coat on set of the TV show in November 2017 – just weeks before she quit acting and announced her engagement to Prince Harry.

She was spotted earlier in a cosy cable-knit jumper by The Row that she wore on screen as Rachel Zane in Suits.

In 2017, animal lover Meghan accompanied her beloved pooch Bogart to the vet wearing a similar pair of chic skinny jeans and practical walking boots.

Taking to the snowy streets, the duchess wrapped up warm in a puffer jacket paired with a blue bobble hat.

Meghan has given an early indication of how she intends to spend her time in Canada by making two impromptu visits to community groups in Vancouver.

The first stop was the Downtown Eastside Women’s Center on Tuesday afternoon, where was on hand to ‘offer support’ and ‘boost the staff’s spirits’.

She dressed down for the occasion in a The Row sweater, a pair of DL1961 denim jeans and a practical pair of brown Le Chameau Jameson quilted boots.

Outside the Duchess wrapped up in another khaki green coat but it is not known if it is the same Soia & Kyo style.

The accessories were typically meaningful, with the Virgo zodiac necklace suggesting that Meghan wants to keep her husband close while he is in the UK.

Such casual separates were staples of Meghan’s wardrobe pre-Harry and serve as yet another indication that she is eager to carve her own path away from the scrutiny – and formality – of the royal family.
