Mom of Vegas McDonald’s worker who brawled with customer speaks out

The mother of the Las Vegas McDonald’s worker whose brawl with a customer became an Internet sensation after footage was posted online has spoken out for the first time.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com Ana Chavolla, 48, defended her daughter, Erika, described herself as ‘very mad’ and revealed her surprising take on who is really to blame for the whole affair.

Twenty-four year old McDonald’s employee Erika Chavolla body slammed Sabrinah Fontelar, also 24, and repeatedly hit her in the face after the customer allegedly tried to fill up a water cup with soda, threw her fries and hurled a milkshake at Chavolla and smack-talked her mother.

Now, speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com from her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ana Chavolla, 48, is unapologetic about her daughter’s swift and brutal response.

She said, ‘What was she supposed to do? Nothing?!

‘Erika’s my daughter. Of course I’m on her side. She has always had a problem with people wanting to pick a fight with her because of her size, because she is big.’

In a brief explanation of her actions on social media Erika said, ‘It’s crazy, people think just ‘cause you’re working….I held off. You heard, she was talking a lot of smack for a long time.’

She claimed that she hadn’t even been going to hit Fontelar but that when the customer saw ‘a big girl coming towards her’ she ‘freaked out.’

According to her mother, ‘The customer was looking for a fight. She was pushing. Erika doesn’t know her, she’s just a customer she comes in throwing things. What did she expect?’

Fontelar claims to have been charged with battery over the fast food show down.

But while there is clearly no love lost between the diminutive Chavolla matriarch and Fontelar the person with whom she is most mad is the stranger who filmed and posted the video of the brawl online without permission.

It has since been shared and viewed millions of times converting the warring girls into dubious internet stars.

In her now numerous Instagram accounts filled with scantily clad pictures of herself Fontelar appears to be embracing the infamy more enthusiastically than Erika.

In stark contrast to her online image a surprisingly shy Erika declined to speak to DailyMail.com when approached at home because, she said, her mom ‘was mad’ and didn’t want her to.

But speaking to DailyMail.com, Chavolla senior explained that her anger isn’t directed at her daughter or even the customer who, she claims, ‘picked a fight’ with her.

She said, ‘Yes I am mad. I am very mad at the moment with the woman who posted that video without permission.

‘I asked Erika, “Did you know this woman? Did you give permission for this to be posted?” She said, “No.”’

Chavolla revealed that she has spoken with an attorney and hopes to bring legal action against Marie Dayag, the witness who recorded and posted the footage. Dayag’s video shows the two women arguing before the fight breaks out.

While the audio is difficult to hear, at one point Chavolla can be heard saying, ‘Since you can’t afford one.’

Fontelar can also be heard saying, ‘That’s why you’re a** is behind the f***ing counter,’ before throwing a French fry across the restaurant and repeatedly shouting, ‘Fight me!’

A second piece of footage shows the fight breaking out after Fontelar hurls a milkshake at Chavolla.

As the larger girl storms towards her, Fontelar picks up a metal tray and hits Chavolla in the head but she barely notices.

Instead she grabs the customer by the hair and beings raining punches down on her head and face. She later claimed to have ‘punched her in the teeth.’

Chavolla then picks up Fontelar and throws her over a nearby table with ease as other employees and even a customer run over to try to break up the fight.

Another McDonald’s employee quickly backs off when Fontelar starts fighting him instead.

The row which sparked a wild brawl

Fontelar: ‘F*** you ho.’

[Inaudible]

Chavolla: [Inaudible] bad.’

F:’That’s why y’all can just leave.

‘What are you going to do, fight me? Fight me b****.

‘That’s why your fat a** is behind the f***ing counter [inaudible, she throws a French fry].’

C: ‘Since you can’t afford one [inaudible] get your personal fries…’

F: ‘I gave it to the [inaudible] what are you talking about?’

‘That’s why ya’ll [inaudible] don’t panic’

‘It’s too late family, y’all f***ed up now, call ’em.’

That reignites the brawl with Fontelar beaten in the head and face a second time and thrown over yet another table.

At one point Chavolla can be heard shouting, ‘My momma ain’t dead. You respect my momma.’

Fontelar can be seen picking up a chair and making as if she is about to hit Chavolla who simply bats it away.

A few more angry words are exchanged but no more punches are traded before the footage cuts out.

McDonald’s has issued a statement saying that the company is investigating the incident and ‘doesn’t condone the behavior in the video.’

Erika has claimed that she still works there but speaking across the weekend her mother appeared uncertain as to whether the incident would cost her daughter her job.

Fontelar said that she was ‘not interested’ in commenting further.
