Battle of Melbourne: More than 60 youths from rival gangs brawl in front of onlookers during terrifying beachside rampage

  • A group of 50 young men were filmed fighting outside a fish and chip shop
  • Another group of 12 male teenagers were caught brawling at a beach nearby
  • One 16-year-old boy has been arrested and investigations are ongoing

More than 60 teenagers have been caught on video brawling in the middle of the street in front of terrified onlookers during two beachside rampages.

A group of 50 teenage boys ran riot at Chelsea beach and a group of 12 started a fight at Mordialloc beach, both in Mebourne’s south, on Monday night.

Footage of the street fight outside Chelsea Pizza House and Fish and Chips at 5.15 showed up to 12 of the teenagers screaming, swearing and kicking each other amid sounds of breaking glass.

As one young man bent down to pick up his hat, another in blue tracksuit pants attempted to kick him in the head.

He narrowly missed as the rest of the group ran to catch up.

Local man John told 3AW one of his sons saw the violence erupt while on his way to work and filmed the commotion.

‘You can see them obviously having a punch-on and you can hear broken glass in the background,’ he said.

‘He had to put his phone down for safety reasons and the only way he could go was out onto Nepean Highway to get away from it.’

John also said his other son was going to the shops in Mordialloc, near Chelsea, when another fight erupted.

‘About an hour later my other son goes to the shops and as he’s walking there’s about 20 kids walking down,’ he said.

‘One of them separates from the group and walks over to my son and takes a swing at him, just completely unprovoked.’

While John’s son is a skilled boxer and was able to dodge the attack, he was shaken and ran into a shop.

Police told Daily Mail Australia there were about 12 teenagers at Mordialloc when they arrived on the scene.

Investigations are continuing and police are talking to several people of interest.

One 16-year-old was arrested and charged for brawling in a riotous manner and offensive language in Chelsea.

He will appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
