Mother-of-two, 26, is fatally struck by a vehicle ‘after she ran out onto a Mississippi freeway to retrieve her phone that she had been using to film a Facebook Live’

  • Jackson police said that the woman was trying to retrieve her phone when she was struck by the car

A woman was fatally struck by a car after she ran out on I-55 to try to retrieve her phone after he flew out her window during a Facebook Live she was filming. 

The Jackson Police Department is investigating the incident involving 26-year-old Ashlee Sims, which took place at around 9pm on Tuesday night. 

Sims had been singing in the car as she filmed the Facebook Live, riding on I-55 South near Briarwood Drive, WJTV reports. 

She dropped her phone and was fatally struck trying to retrieve it

She could be seen singing into the video until the phone was knocked out of her hand and into the street. 

The clip continues for several moments until screams are heard in the distance and cars can be heard screeching to a halt.  

Other vehicles can be heard honking as the footage continues playing.

Police shared that as the woman tried to grab her phone, she was hit by a vehicle. 

The mother-of-two died at the scene. 

Authorities are investigating.  

According to a Facebook account belonging to Sims, both of her children had upcoming birthdays in August.
