Music and film exec David Geffen drops $30million on empty acre in Beverly Hills’ ‘Billionaires Row’

David Geffen has bought one of the last empty plots of land in Beverly Hills’ ‘Billionaires Row’ for $30 million

Famed music and film executive David Geffen has bought one of the last empty plots of land in Beverly Hills’ ‘Billionaires Row’ for $30 million.

Geffen, 76, who founded the music labels Asylum Records, Geffen Records and DGC Records (now called Interscope Geffen A&M Records), nabbed the land at nearly 25 percent discount from its initial list price of $39 million, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The one-acre piece of land is located high in hills, nestled between already developed homes owned by California’s elite and overlooking the City of Angeles.

The lot is located across the street from real estate developer Nile Niami’s ‘Opus,’ which at the time it was finished being built in 2017 was the most expensive house in America.

The sweeping view of Los Angeles from downtown to the edge of the West Coast is crystal clear from the property.

If Geffen chooses to follow plans laid out for the land, he’ll be the proud owner of a 24,500 square-foot mansion.

Architectural firm Shubin Donaldson mocked up a design boasting modern luxuries including a nightclub, bowling alley, theater, bar, salon and gym, all inside of a single-family home that would fit neatly in the space.

That’s in addition to the seven bedrooms and 14 bathrooms that one might expect the home design to include.

The firm also envisioned an outdoor swimming pool spanning the full length of the property, measuring 140 feet long.

The $30 million price tag is at least the second reduction on the listing, which dropped its ask to $35.995 million a few months after it went on the market.

Geffen’s new neighbors in the ultra-exclusive enclave will include Minecraft creator Markus Persson and business executive Evan Metropoulos.

Geffen is no stranger to lavish real estate, having sold a waterfront home for $85 million in Malibu’s Carbon Beach in Summer of 2017. A few months later he let go of a $8 million property nearby

In 2014, Persson opted for a move-in ready, brand new mansion built by Bruce Makowsky for $70 million.

Metropoulus chose to grab the former home of late comedian Danny Thomas for $65 million in 2018.

For those hoping to join the community, Niami’s uber-luxurious mansion – which is so fancy it has its own proper name – is currently up for sale for $60 million directly across the street.

Behind the golden gates that conceal ‘Opus,’ as it’s called, one will find a glass and marble residence with moats, four swimming pools, 20 bedrooms, a nightclub, a bowling alley, a cinema and walls and ceilings made of jellyfish aquariums.

It first hit the market for $100 million as Beverly Hills’ most expensive property at the time in May of 2017.

Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency represented Geffen on this latet purchase, which was listed by Branden and Rayni Williams of Hilton & Hyland.

Geffen is also co-founder of DreamWorks Pictures, which he started with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg in 1990.
