NBA fan tells Kevin Durant his Texas alma mater is LOSING their March Madness game while he’s on the court for the Phoenix Suns… before Longhorns were eliminated from NCAA Tournament

An NBA fan was seen telling Suns star Kevin Durant that Texas – his alma mater – was losing its first-round March Madness game while he was playing for Phoenix, before the Longhorns went onto be eliminated from this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Sitting near the court at AT&T Center – home of the San Antonio Spurs – on Saturday  night, the fan alerted Durant midway through the NBA game, letting him know at first ‘hey Texas is losing baby. They’re down at the half.’

Reacting to the update, the 35-year-old forward asked the fan ‘score?’ before he was told that the Longhorns are ‘down like 10.’ 

’10?’ Durant then asked, double-checking that he heard the point differential right. 

‘Yeah,’ the fan confirms, as the Suns star stays silent while trying to regain focus on the game he’s currently playing in. 

'They're down at the half,' he further clarified after Durant asked for the score, to which the fan said 'down like 10'

Durant only played a season at Texas in 2006-07 before declaring for the NBA Draft. 

With the Longhorns, the 6-ft-9, two-time NBA champion averaged 25.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. 

Texas finished the season with a 25-10 record overall and a 12-4 record in the Big 12 conference. The team made it is as far as the second-round of the NCAA Tournament with Durant, just like they did this year.     

For his outstanding play, 17 seasons ago, Durant was recognized as the unanimous national player of the year, winning the John R. Wooden Award, the Naismith College Player of the Year Award, and all eight other widely recognized honors and awards.

This made Durant the first freshman to win any of the national player of the year awards Following the season, he was selected as the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder. His No. 35 jersey was later retired by the Longhorns.
