NBA fans go wild on social media for Aaron Gordon’s ‘dunk of the year’ contender and insist that Landry Shamet should ‘retire’ after being embarrassed by Nuggets star… but Nikola Jokic jokes: ‘I was open!’

A monster dunk by Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon sparked a firestorm on Twitter as his high flying prowess posterized Landry Shamet.

With the Nuggets game against the Phoenix Suns in overtime, Shamet missed a 3-point jumper allowing Gordon to grab the rebound.

In a matter of seconds, Gordon made his way down the court, leaped through the air and slammed the ball home in spite of Shamet’s best effort to draw a charge.

The referees initially did call a charge in favor of Phoenix, but went to the monitors and overturned the decision – giving Gordon the points and a free throw, which he missed.

In the end, Denver managed to hang on to win 128-125, taking them to the top of the Western Conference.

After the game ended, teammate Nikola Jokic reacted to the dunk, joking that he was open for a bucket on the night he recorded a triple-double.

Fans on social media went wild for the dunk, commenting on Shamet’s career prospects after this humiliation as well as the gall of the officials to call it a charge initially.

‘Landry Shamet has to retire. I’m sorry for him but those are the rules,’ wrote one fan on Twitter.

‘Poor guy has a family,’ another user said as a third wrote, ‘RIP LANDRY SHAMET.’

A fan outraged by the initial call of a charge posted, ‘calling that a charge was a war crime’.
