During his illustrious 40-year movie career, Nicolas has owned a number of luxury homes  including a $25million waterfront home in Newport Beach, California and a $15.7 million countryside estate in Newport, Rhode Island.

But it’s his current home in which the star sounds the most relaxed, telling the publication that he’s ‘still decorating’ as he welcomes them into the sprawling abode which the publication reports is decorated with ‘mighty bronze dragons’ and ‘lacquered arms holding torches’ on ‘eggplant purple walls’.

Further descriptions go on to highlight the Con Air star’s quirky sense of style, with GQ reporting a ‘imposing mahogany cuckoo clock’, an original Creature From the Black Lagoon poster and an eye-catching giant photo of singer Prince roller-skating in hot pants.

With no taxes to pay and with the home being away from the glitz and bright lights of Hollywood, Cage said of his relocation: ‘In some ways, this move saved me.’

The National Treasure sold his previous Las Vegas home in the Spanish Hills for $6million last year after originally purchasing it in 2006.

Meanwhile, Nicolas went onto to discuss he affection for his animals, including his ‘best friend’ Merlin, a Maine coon cat.

He said of Merlin: ‘He’s so kind and so loving. Sometimes he puts his arm around me when he’s sleeping, and I think it’s my wife, and I go, “Oh, Riko.” And then it’s Merlin.’

He also shared his admiration for his talking crow Huggin, with Nicolas stating it was ‘love at first sight’ when they met.

Over the years, the film star has owned a menagerie of exotic animals including albino king cobras, an octopus costing him a reported $150,000, a shark and a crocodile.

But his latest batch of animals were acquired from his ‘favourite pet store’ after the owner died, with Nicolas feeling that its his duty to look after the pets, which include fish and turtles.

He explained: ‘My job is to care for them, make sure they’re happy and safe. Eventually, I’ll have to donate him, like I donated my two-headed snake to the Audubon Zoo.’

Meanwhile during the interview, Nicolas detailed his plans for a fresh start as he prepares to welcome a new baby with his wife of a year, Riko Shiabta.

He told the publication: ‘I am a romantic, and when I’m in love, I want to give that person everything I can,’ he says. ‘It’s my expression of saying, “I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.'” And this is it for me.’

Nicolas and Riko have already picked out names for their child: Akira Francesco for a boy and Lennon Augie for a girl.

Of how the names were derived, the Californian film star said: ‘Augie was my father’s nickname. And my uncle – the director Francis Ford Coppola – has decided to change his name to Francesco.’

His first marriage was to actress Patricia Arquette and he then married Lisa Marie Presley in 2002, a year after divorcing Patricia. Alice was his third wife and in March 2019, he wed Erika Koike in Las Vegas, only to file for annulment four days later.
