A teenager who was stabbed to death during a ‘mass brawl’ in East London has today been named by police. 

Shae Gordon, 17, from Enfield, was killed during a large street brawl which reportedly involved ‘100 men’, some armed with machetes.

Met Police officers were called to the scene on Lichfield Road, E3, just after midnight on September 4 and found two teenagers with stab wounds. 

Shae was taken to hospital but pronounced dead at just before 2am. The second teenager remains in critical condition following the stabbing.

Officers arrested an an 18-year-old man on suspicion of violent disorder, who remains in custody.

The incident is one of the latest in a deadly summer for the capital, and occurred the same day as the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Maximillian Kusi-Owusu on Kensington High Street.  

It also comes just days after footballer-turned drill rapper Takayo Nembhard, 21, was stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival.

The capital has so far seen 70 murders in 2022, with 49 of them involving a knife as a weapon.

Lawless London: 70 murders in 2022  

London has so far seen 70 murders in 2022, with the grim figures casting doubt on Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s Violent Crime Task Force.

The fatal stabbing of Shae Gordon on 4 September occurred the same day as the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Maximillian Kusi-Owusu on Kensington High Street.

August saw eleven murders in the capital, six of them involved stabbings, most notably Thomas O’Halloran, 87 who was stabbed in his mobility scooter. The youngest victim was aged 15.

Medics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene and both males were rushed to an East London hospital.  

Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation following the incident, with forensics pictured on the scene.

Shae’s family are being supported by specialist officers following their tragic loss.

Detective chief inspector Mark Rogers of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: ‘An arrest has been made and our investigation is continuing at pace. 

‘Shae’s family have our assurances that we will do everything we possibly can to bring them justice and support them following their terrible loss.

There were six suspected murders in four days alone in August, including Thomas O’Halloran, 87, who was stabbed to death in his mobility scooter in Greenford.

Pressure has been mounting on Sadiq Khan following a spike in knife crime since COVID restrictions were lifted.

The Mayor of London pledged his commitment to tackling violent crime with the Met Police Violent Crime Task Force.

In a tweet, he said: ‘Violent crime tears families and communities apart

‘It has no place in London and I am determined to bear down on both violence and the complex causes of violence.’
