Princess Madeleine of Sweden marks 10 years of marriage with Christopher O’Neill

Princess Madeleine of Sweden has celebrated her wedding anniversary with sweet throwback pictures on social media.

The royal, 40, who is the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, marked 10 years of marriage with US financier Christopher O’Neill with ‘private’ photos from their big day on Instagram.

Shared today, the snaps offer a behind-the-scene glimpse of the couple’s lavish ceremony, as well as Madeleine getting ready with her mother Silvia, and Chris stealing a kiss from his bride during the reception.

The pair tied the knot on 8 June 2013, at the Royal Palace chapel in Stockholm, before moving to New York in 2015, followed by London and later Florida, where they currently live with their three children.

This comes as the Swedish royal household announced earlier this year that Madeleine and Chris will return to Sweden ‘indefinitely’ from August.

In snaps shared today by Madeleine, the mother-of-three looked back on her wedding day, where she stunned in a gown from Valentino, made from silk with applications of ivory Chantilly lace.

She wore it with a six-metre long veil which was also made from silk organdies, edged with tulle and embellished with Chantilly lace flowers.

Two stylish white and black portraits showed the bride’s glamourous makeup and her glitzy choice of accessories.

Her hazel locks were swept in a low bun and held in place by her royal tiara, which was decorated with a delicate garland of fresh orange blossoms.

One picture revealed how she was escorted to her ceremony by her mother Queen Silvia, who wore a blue dress adorned with gems.

The snaps also captured a jubilant Chris and Madeleine as they took to the dancefloor during their wedding reception.

Another photo pictured the couple arriving at the reception, and another captured the groom addressing his bride and wedding guests at the dinner table in front of a wall decorated with hundreds of pink and white roses and peonies.

Madeleine also shared a sweet picture of her and her husband sharing a kiss, with a glass of champagne in hand.

‘A look back to some private moments that I cherish from our wedding, ten years ago today,’ the royal wrote with a heart emoji on her Instagram account.

The nuptials were attended by several famous faces, including Duran Duran’s John Taylor, Prince Nikolaos of Greece, Karl-Johan Persson – the chief executive of fashion company Hennes & Mauritz (H&M), and Roxette stars Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson.

The couple met after Princess Madeleine fled to the U.S. in 2010 with a broken heart.

She crossed the Atlantic following the breakdown of her first engagement to Swedish attorney Jonas Bergstrom amid speculation that he had cheated on her.

Madeleine is set to return to Stockholm in August with her family. The couple share three children, Leonore, nine, Nicolas, seven and Adrienne, four.

The children lost their Royal Highness titles after King Carl XVI Gustaf removed the title and membership in the Royal House in 2019, to allow the grandchildren more freedom as they grow up.

While for many years she has lived a much quieter royal life, Princess Madeleine, 40, is still patron of many charities in her home country.

Just a couple of weeks ago the mother-of-three shared a snap of eldest daughter Leonore as she celebrated her ninth birthday.

She posted a photo of the young royal on Instagram with her blonde hair pulled back, showing off a dainty pair of stud earrings.

She wore lilac shorts paired with a white shirt, with ruffle collar and pink and green floral print.

Underneath the photo, Princess Madeleine wrote: ‘9 years old today! A very happy birthday to our sweet Leonore who shines everyday!’

Royal fans went wild for the snap, which quickly rounded up over 13k likes and over 300 comments.

Despite the family currently living in Miami, Florida, until August, Leonore was born in New York and holds dual American and Swedish citizenship.

Princess Madeleine, Christopher O’Neill and the children also adopted a rescue dog Oreo into the family last year, who will likely be making the move to Stockholm too.

Sharing photos of Oreo on Instagram last year, the Princess said Oreo ‘was not treated well and was tied up outside, under the Florida elements, for most of the day and night’.

She added: ‘But today, he gets to make us laugh and show us what a tender and loving soul he has.’
