A man and woman have been charged after they allegedly stole a Toyota Landcruiser with a four-year-old boy and a puppy still inside. 

Police allege a 35-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman stole the car just before 10pm last night in Gladstone, central Queensland.

The owners of the car were locking up hockey fields on Dawson Road when the pair allegedly swooped.

The four-year-old was found at a fast-food restaurant on Glenlyon Road just 15 minutes later. 

Police were alerted to the abandoned four-wheel drive on Matson Crescent just after 1am.

The puppy was still inside the car – neither the dog or boy were hurt during the alleged ordeal.

Both the man and woman were taken into custody on Saturday afternoon and both were charged with abducting a child under 16, unlawful user of a motor vehicle and endangering a child by exposure.  

The 35-year-old man will appear at the Gladstone Magistrates Court on August 13 while the 22-year-old woman will appear in the same court on Monday.
