‘My mum had Type 2 diabetes and I’ve also lived a naughty lifestyle so it could be either or both,’ Mel wrote on her Instagram.

‘I’m confident that I’ll give it my all to reverse it, one of the many things I’m proud of is my resilience and determination,’ she added.

Mel said she plans to have a complete lifestyle change in order to fight the condition back and keep healthy.

‘You are meeting a new Mel today. For the next three months, to get started it’s no alcohol and a very strict diet of no refined sugar or carbs,’ she wrote.

‘I’d already consciously decided to start this three weeks ago so I’m off to a good start with adjusting,’ she added.

Mel finished by saying it was important for younger Australians to get tested, as it is common but often goes undetected in people.

According to Diabetes Australia, Type 2 Diabetes is diagnosed when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin.

However, it also occurs when the insulin does not work effectively or the cells of the body do not respond to insulin effectively.

Mel regularly talks about her struggles with balancing a busy lifestyle with a healthy one.

‘I don’t aspire to be skinny anymore, I just aspire to be happy and healthy,’ Mel wrote on Instagram in February this year.

Mel said she wanted to follow in Rebel Wilson’s footsteps by making 2021 her own ‘Year of Health’.
