Report: Fox expects to be fired by Bears

John Fox is expected to be fired by the Chicago Bears after Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

For the third consecutive season under Fox, the Bears are finishing in the basement in the NFC North division. Fox entered Sunday’s game with a 14-33 record as head coach of the Bears.

Multiple outlets reported general manager Ryan Pace was expected to be retained — he was hired shortly after Fox arrived — and lead the search for a new coach.

Fox, 62, downplayed the weight of a potential change this week, saying “I’ve never had trouble getting employment in this league and I’m not going to start worrying about it now.”

The Bears have missed the playoffs in 10 of the past 11 seasons and Fox recorded only three wins against NFC North teams entering Sunday’s finale against the division champion Vikings.

Fox has been a head coach for 15 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Bears. He was let go by the Panthers after a 2-14 season in 2010 and replaced by Gary Kubiak in Denver following the Broncos’ 2014 playoff elimination.
