Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother has celebrated another season of her son being the pride of European football… but came a little unstuck when it came to Italian translation in paying tribute.

Dolores Aveiro took to social media to express her pride at seeing Ronaldo enjoy such a successful debut season in Italian football with Juventus.

Ronaldo helped Juve to retain their Serie A title, while making the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Taking to Twitter however, his mother appeared to misread the situation a little.

‘My son, my pride,’ wrote Dolores, above an image of Ronaldo which contained a caption of differing meaning.

When translate, the caption above the shot of Ronaldo read: ‘Cristiano, that player who rescued Juventus from relegation and made them win a league again after almost 20 years of drought. Incredible.’

One fan replied in Spanish: ‘Thank you mother of Cristiano for making us the most entertaining Monday.’

With three games remaining for Juve in the Serie A calendar, Ronaldo could yet finish his debut season in Italy as the league’s top scorer.

Presently, Ronaldo has 21 domestic strikes to his name – along with a further eight assists.

Leading the way is Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella on 25 goals, while Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata sits in second with 22 goals.

Juve rivals Roma on Sunday, as they travel to the Eternal City. 

Ronaldo and Juve will then finish the season with games against the sides of his two goal-scoring rivals – facing Atalanta and Sampdoria respectively.
