Tennis legend Mark Philippoussis struggles with the pain of a tightrope challenge high above a canyon in the latest trailer for season two of Seven’s SAS Australia.

The sportsman, 44, who won two Davis Cup titles in 1999 and 2003, proves his strength and athleticism during the terrifying task.

‘When I’m on this course, I have to push through the pain,’ Philippoussis, known as ‘The Scud’ during his professional career, says in a voiceover.

Philippoussis is seen struggling through a number of different obstacles, starting with a fist fight and then being thrown from a helicopter. 

He also speaks about his motivation for going on the show.  

‘I want to show my son as long as you keep going, as long as you keep believing, as long as you do not quit, you can achieve anything that you dream of,’ he says.

Elsewhere, Mark drives a Jeep away from scenes of gunfire during a military exercise, then faces off against another recruit while balancing on a log. 

He is then shown running covered head to toe in mud through an obstacle course. 

‘As a kid I was such a dreamer,’ the former world No. 8 says during his interrogation with the British former SAS soldiers.

‘I can’t remember the last time I’ve dreamt of something I wanted to do, or become. I’ve stopped dreaming,’ he adds.   

Philippoussis is one of 18 celebrities who will face a series of gruelling physical and mental tests inspired by the real SAS selection course.

The new season is being billed as the most punishing ever seen in the Australian or British versions of the show.

In freezing cold conditions, the recruits will be subjected to sleep deprivation, interrogation and psychological testing.

No allowances or exceptions are made for their celebrity status or gender.

SAS Australia season two will air on Seven in September
