AFL great Eddie Betts has shared a horrific racist attack outside his family home.

The video, posted on the former Carlton and Crows’ Instagram page, shows a white car approaching the Betts’ home before someone in the vehicle yells out the N-word on four occasions.

A second camera angle shows Betts’ kids and their friends playing basketball within earshot of the shocking slurs.

The Indigenous footy icon has been left angered by the incident.

‘Aboriginal kids deserve to be able to play safely, free from racism and abuse over the fence,’ he posted.

‘We are not even safe in our own homes. If you know who this is please let me them know that I’m open to having a chat about how much this hurts our kids’.

The footy world got around Betts and condemned the vile behaviour. Melbourne star Christian Petracca added: ‘Disgusting!!! Thinking of you and the family.’

Liam Ryan of the West Coast Eagles said: ‘That’s eff’d up my bro.’

Carlton’s Marc Murphy labelled the racist ‘weak as p*** scum’.

A raft of other messages of support for Betts came from the likes of  Shayn Burgoyne, Steven May, Kysaiah Pickett and Bradley Hill.

Betts is a leading voice in pro-Indigenous rights but fears it will be hard to stamp out racism.

‘They don’t like Aboriginal people standing up for what they believe in and trying to stamp out racism. It feels like they want to put us back down in our boxes where they think we belong,’ Betts said.

‘Everyone else needs to do their part and continue to talk and continue to educate and continue to have those conversations.

‘Look at (Adam Goodes). He called out racism and it kept happening to him, and people were jumping on board even thought they didn’t know what was going.

‘It is disappointing to see. We just have to continue to keep educating.

‘We’re seeing change, but it’s always going to happen.’

Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.
