Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to perform Murder on the Dancefloor in front of Barry Keoghan at the BAFTA Awards after actor’s iconic Saltburn dance turned it into a streaming smash

Sophie Ellie-Bextor is set to take to the stage at the 2024 BAFTAs to perform her hit single Murder On The Dance Floor in front of Saltburns’ Barry Keoghan.

The singer will perform her 2001 hit on February 18 at the Royal Festival Hall in London in front of the actor who danced naked to the single during his latest film.

Barry will be going up against the likes of Bradley Cooper, Cillian Murphy, Colman Domingo, Teo Yoo and Paul Giametti for Leading Actor at the awards.

Sophie’s hit, which was released 23 years ago, features in the finale of Emerald Fennell’s much talked about film, when main character Oliver – played by Barry – dances naked to the song.

The film’s popularity – with the dancing scene trending on social media – meant that earlier this month Murder On The Dancefloor was in the top five most played tracks in the world.

After hearing Murder On The Dancefloor live, Saltburn director Emerald, 38, was convinced it was the right song to use in her movie smash – not least because the lyrics fitted the script of the film.

Murder On The Dance Floor landing in the charts once again has recently won her a lucrative new deal with her old record label.

She will also perform the track at this year’s BRIT awards.

Sources close to Sophie say that she ‘cannot believe’ her comeback and is said to be ‘super excited’ about belting out the song at the event in March.

A music industry insider told MailOnline: ‘Sophie will be appearing at the awards this year, it’s incredible to think she didn’t in her heyday but she is now all of these years later.

‘It is a real go back in time moment but it will also be one that organisers think will be really popular with the audience of all ages thanks to Saltburn.

‘Youngsters won’t remember it the first time around and older people will love the memories. Sophie is just so excited about it.’

Sophie’s Murder on the Dancefloor was nominated for best British song in 2001 and a year later she was shortlisted for the British female solo artist and again in 2004 but she has never performed at the ceremony.

She and her husband Richard Jones were guests at the event last year.
