‘Stalker’ accused of harassment after posting a black thong through his neighbour’s letterbox insists he thought he was being helpful by returning them

A woman had a black thong and a lipstick shoved through her letterbox in a bizarre harassment campaign, a court heard.
Ricardo Beran, 26, claimed he ‘found’ the underwear and make-up and was posting it through neighbour Eugenia Walters’ front door because he thought they belonged to her.
Lydia Marshall Bain, prosecuting, explained: ‘When the defendant was interviewed in relation to the incident he said that he had found the black thong and the lipstick in front of the door and posted them in order to be helpful.’
But Ms Walters caught Beran watching her through her bedroom window from the green behind her house on another occasion, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard.
When she went to get her phone out to take a photo of him he ran away.
Ms Walters claimed on another occasion she saw him kicking through chairs she had piled up to protect a hole in her fence to make his way into her back garden.
The mother of three told the court: ‘On December 3 I arrived back to my property with my children, my mother, and my partner.
‘We were sitting in the front room.
‘I heard some rustling through my letter box, we jumped up to have a look.
‘I went to the window, my son went to the front door.
‘He shouted out I am not picking that up it’s disgusting.
‘There were a few items on the floor, a black thong and lipstick.
‘They were all on the inside of my front door.’
She told the court that she did not own the items.
Ms Walters described an earlier incident on August 8 last year.
She said: ‘I was upstairs in my bedroom, I think I was putting a new mattress on.

‘He had come right outside my bedroom window.
‘I just saw a shadow walking past, because from my back garden window you can look through into the garden.
‘He had black jeans on and the hood up, he was pushing the chairs through with his foot and he has gone through.
‘I opened my window and shouted at him – he ran off.’
Beran, of Mitcham, south London, denies harassment without violence.
The hearing was adjourned until July 11.
