Tammy Hembrow mocked by fans as her red carpet moment at the MTV Video Music Awards is ruined

‘No one knows her so they held up a sign’: Tammy Hembrow mocked by fans as her red carpet moment at the MTV Video Music Awards is ruined by lady forced to hold up her name

Instagram sensation Tammy Hembrow represented Australia at the star-studded MTV Video Music Awards in New Jersey on Monday.

But despite boasting almost 10 million followers, the 26-year-old is hardly on the same level as other VIPs in attendance, including the likes of Taylor Swift.

As she hit the red carpet in a racy two-piece ensemble by designer Geche Escvar, her big moment was overshadowed by the fact that many people had no idea who she was.

In a video shared by Tammy to Instagram, a female chaperone was seen standing to the side of the blonde holding an embarrassing sign with her name as she posed up a storm.

‘Tammy Hembrow, Australia,’ it read, informing American photographers, reporters and fans on the red carpet who she was.

The chaperone extended her arms high above her head with the A4 sign before Tammy stepped in front of the photo wall.

It is believed that many of the less famous guests require signs like this, while the A-list stars, as expected, do not require an introduction.

Tammy was invited to the ceremony by MTV Australia. She provided live coverage of the event for the station on their social media channels.

The bold move to invite the social media sensation to the music awards show was met with both criticism and confusion by many online.

‘What relevance does she have to MTV?’ one commented on Instagram.

‘Well… I guess MTV is dead now,’ joked another.

A third fan wrote: ‘Why are you there? Just wondering.’

Stepping onto the red carpet, Tammy stood out in a matching top and skirt by American designer Geche Escvar.

She accesorised the look with Steve Madden shoes, a Judith Leiber bag and jewlery by Adina’s, CZ by Kenneth Jay Lane and Simon G.

However, it was her 25-inch wig by Ruslan Nureev that truly turned heads.
