Teen caught on camera bringing gun to school entrance

Surveillance video has captured a teenager bringing a gun to the entrance of a charter school in Philadelphia.

Just one day after the mass shooting at a Florida high school that left 17 people dead, cameras caught a teen pulling out a handgun by the Frederick Douglas Mastery Charter School.

The incident took place at about 3.20pm on February 15, barely 24 hours after Nikolas Cruz shot and killed three teachers and 14 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Sheyma Boone has two younger brothers, aged 11 and 14, who attend the school. She felt uneasy after being shown the video by FOX 29.

‘I’m scared. I’m scared for their life,’ she told the news station. ‘[Police] need to find him because he could be going around to any school. Probably doesn’t go here. He’s just a bully.’

Boone says security at the charter school is tight. In addition to cameras around the school, visitors are seen on camera as they wait to get buzzed in. They can also be subject to a search once they enter.

On Friday morning, a student tipped off officials after she saw another student with what turned out to be a toy gun at the Wagner Middle School.

After a four-hour lockdown and a search by police, the 12-year-old boy who brought the toy was charged on Monday with possessing a gun in school.

‘What this speaks to is the importance of something we hammer down every day, which is see something say something,’ Police Sgt Eric Gripp said on Friday.
