Teenage girls stole $5k from a Melbourne hit-run survivor

Heather Young, 56, was set upon and robbed by a group of teenage girls who stole her handbag which contained $5,000 she planned to spend for Christmas with her elderly mother.

Ms Young, who has an acquired brain injury, was assaulted on November 20 as she was driving to buy cigarettes in a milk bar on Widford Street, Broadmeadows.

‘There’s no words I can say. It’s just very upsetting’ the victims told Nine News.

The teen thieves yelled at Ms Young to handover her car keys, before dragging her from the vehicle.

‘They seemed like kids, I was horrified’ said Ms Young, still traumatized by the cowardly act.

‘They just threw me on the ground like a ragdoll’, she explained.

Ms Young suffered a broken leg during the assault and spent two weeks in hospital in Melbourne.

She is still recovering from injuries caused in a hit-run crash 12 years ago, which left her with 67 broken bones and collapsed lungs.

‘The ambulance scraped me up from the road. I was dead,’ she described of the first incident.

During the last attack, CCTV captured one of the teenage robbers fleeing the scene with Ms. Young’s handbag.

Two bystanders who witnessed the crime leapt into action, with one calling police and the other chasing the thieves.

‘Thank you for the people that did help me, I’m very grateful’ added Ms Young.

Half an hour after the violent incident, other security cameras captured two men of Middle Eastern appearance using the Melbourne hit-run survivor’s credit card at a Coles Express in Glenroy.

‘They’ve attempted to purchase products from the store, but it appears the transaction did not go through,’ Detective Senior Constable Patrick Derksen reported.

‘They obviously don’t have a conscience, so there’s no point appealing to them all… low lives, scum of the earth,’ concluded the victim of the cowardly act.

Police keep searching for the offenders who robbed Ms Young last month.
