The Block’s Omar and Oz reveal the truth about their relationship with ‘Mr Lambo’

Are these the tell-tale signs The Block was rigged? Moment Omar, Oz and their auctioneer high-five their ‘millionaire mate’ just moments before auction – as Sydney mates reveal the truth about their history with bidder

The auctions for The Block are done and dusted, but many fans aren’t convinced it was a fair race.

Omar Slaimankhel and Ozman ‘Oz’ Abu Malik’s record-breaking $1.6m win during the finale descended in a bitter war of worlds on social media on Sunday night, with some viewers accusing the Sydney-based friends of roping their ‘millionaire mate’ into being a ‘dummy bidder’ to drive up the price of their home.

During the episode, Adrian Portelli – an online promotions guru with a net worth of $8million, who arrived at the auction in a flashy yellow Lamborghini – seemed to know Omar and Oz well.

In blink and you’ll miss it moment, he was even seen high-fiving Omar and Oz and their auctioneer just moments before he began bidding on their home.

He then opened the bidding on House 5 at $4.5million, which was much higher than the $4.08million reserve price.

His aggressive bidding meant eventual buyer Danny Wallis ended up paying an eye-watering $5,666,666.66 for the four-bedroom, 10-acre property, making the boys instant millionaires with total winnings of $1,686,666.66 – the biggest victory in The Block’s 18-year history.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Monday, Omar said he was ‘disappointed’ viewers would accuse him and Oz of bringing in a ‘dummy bidder’ and insisted they won the competition fair and square.

‘It’s a shame that Oz and I do so well and we are here justifying our win a day after the auction, that’s all I am worried about – that a lot of people out there are going to hate, but that’s what happens.’

He also rubbished claims they knew Portelli beforehand and he purposely opened the bidding at $4.5million.

‘Oz and I got together with our agents a fair bit and they mentioned we had to reach out to all our networking and see who would potentially be able to come to the house and have a look at it,’ he explained.

‘We reached out to a mutual friend (Portelli) who said he might be keen. He’s watched the show. He’s seen our house and he absolutely loved it when he did come and see it a few weeks ago.’

Omar explained Portelli did in fact check out the other team’s houses but wasn’t interested in bidding.

‘He also saw another couple of houses and unfortunately for the them he wasn’t interested. I’m pretty sure he went to house three or four on auction days,’ he explained.

Omar said the pair also met with other potential buyers and were surprised that eventual buyer Danny Wallis was interested in their home.

‘We had another bidder who loved our house, a beautiful family. We met the family a few times actually. So at the end of the day, we definitely had the bidders to buy the house,’ he said.

‘Very surprising that Danny Wallace jumped on it as well. We had no idea he was gonna bid. So when Danny Wallace loved your house and a few other guys with that kind of wealth that’s when you get a bidding war.’
